Our partner, March On, is proud to present an exclusive virtual salon, “Long Way Down: From Page to Stage”, featuring a powerful conversation between MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and award-winning author Jason Reynolds and March On Founder Robert Raben.
Reynolds’ acclaimed novel Long Way Down—a gripping, lyrical exploration of violence, grief, and the unspoken rules that shape young Black men’s lives—has been reimagined as a dynamic Hip-Hop and R&B musical by Dahlak Brathwaite and Khiyon Hursey. This transformation amplifies its urgent themes, bringing the emotional depth and storytelling power of the book to new audiences.
Together, Reynolds and Raben will unpack the unquestioned norms of revenge, the silent weight of grief, and the impact of a single decision to either break or perpetuate generational cycles. Attendees will also get a behind-the-scenes look at clips from the Olney Theatre’s world-premiere production of the musical.
Why This Conversation Matters
At March On, we believe in the power of storytelling to challenge narratives, inspire change, and foster justice. Long Way Down is exactly the kind of story that moves—one that forces us to reckon with cycles of violence, the weight of masculinity, and the possibilities of transformation.
We invite you to join this free virtual salon and experience how art can illuminate difficult truths and pave the way for change.
